Kirkland & Ellis Announces Participation in Law Firm Sustainability Network
Kirkland is pleased to announce its participation in the newly incorporated Law Firm Sustainability Network (LFSN). Consisting of top U.S. law firms that have come together to promote environmental sustainability across the legal industry, the LFSN’s mission is to develop key performance indicators, foster knowledge-sharing, develop best practice guidelines, and recognize innovation regarding environmental sustainability.
“At Kirkland, we understand that environmental awareness does not end at our office walls. Cooperation with peer firms around the country is key to establishing green practices within the legal industry,” said Kirkland intellectual property partner Matthew Topic. “The Law Firm Sustainability Network has allowed us a unique opportunity to learn from our peers, share our ideas and successes with other firms, and honor our professional responsibilities through good corporate citizenship.”
Kirkland recognizes and supports internal green initiatives as an important professional obligation of a leading law firm. The Firm’s pilot member status within the LFSN is one of many actions Kirkland has undertaken to lessen its environmental impact and increase environmental stewardship to the benefit of its employees, clients and community. The Firm pursues LEED certification for its offices, including an achieved LEED Silver rating for its 650,000 square foot office interior in Chicago. Materials with recycled content, such as floor tile, carpet and furniture - as well as ENERGY STAR-qualified equipment - are used throughout the Firm’s offices. The Kirkland Green Team, consisting of attorneys and staff from all areas of the Firm, works to assess and reduce Kirkland’s environmental impact.
Participation in the LFSN affords Kirkland the opportunity to enhance its sustainability program and act as a leader in developing best practices. The LFSN will create an international partnership with the Legal Sector Alliance UK and the Australian Legal Sector Alliance, allowing Kirkland and other U.S. firms to pursue sustainability within the legal industry on a global scale.
