Kirkland Strengthens Hong Kong Capital Markets Practice with the Addition of Dr. Mengyu Lu

Kirkland & Ellis is pleased to announce that Dr. Mengyu Lu will join the Firm as a partner in the Capital Markets Practice Group of the Firm’s Hong Kong office. Dr. Lu focuses on initial public offerings and listings on the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, mergers and acquisitions, and post-listing compliance matters.

“We’re very excited that Mengyu is rejoining Kirkland,” said Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland’s Executive Committee. “Hong Kong is a key market for Chinese and international businesses to raise capital, and Mengyu is unquestionably a leading lawyer for Hong Kong IPOs. She will be a great asset for the Firm’s Asia transactional practice.”

“Mengyu is a rising star,” said David Zhang, a partner in Kirkland’s Asia Corporate Practice Group. “She has a strong track record in advising Chinese issuers across a broad range of industries, including healthcare and life sciences, on their Hong Kong listings. We are confident that she will bolster our market-leading capital markets practice in Asia.”

Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific recognized Dr. Lu as an up and coming lawyer for China equity capital markets. IFLR1000 named her as a highly regarded lawyer for Hong Kong capital markets. She was also listed in China Business Law Journal’s “China’s Elite 100 Lawyers” in 2016-2018 and 2020, and in Asian Legal Business’s “Top 15 Rising Lawyers” in 2017.

Dr. Lu joins Kirkland from Sidley Austin, where she was a partner in the Hong Kong office.

Dr. Lu holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, an LL.M. from Duke University School of Law, and an LL.B. from China University of Political Science and Law.
