She also served in the Senate as Counsel for the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Previously, she was Attorney Advisor to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Division of Enforcement. She began her legal career as an associate at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale & Dorr.
Known for advocating for each client’s goals in crisis environments, Ms. Murphy also brings experience in media and regulatory contexts, as well as litigation. She has significant experience leading congressional and government investigations, as well as defending clients during such inquiries.
“We are committed to being the law firm of choice for clients facing high stakes hearings and congressional investigations, and we have one of the most experienced teams in Washington for significant inquiries and hearings. Allison has particular expertise in the energy, financial services and pharmaceutical sectors and we look forward to introducing her to our clients,” said Reginald (“Reg”) J. Brown, a partner in Kirkland’s Government, Regulatory & Internal Investigations Group.
Ms. Murphy joins a strong bipartisan Government, Regulatory & Internal Investigations Group. The Firm hired Mr. Brown in December 2020. Former DOJ Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski returned in September 2020, and former Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan joined in September 2019. The Firm’s internationally recognized team includes former senior enforcement professionals from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.K. Serious Fraud Office (SFO). These individuals have experience in both senior government positions and in leading the defenses of some of the world’s largest multinational corporations. These Kirkland partners also have, while in government service, authored policies and regulations that are central to the evaluation and disposition of corporate and anti-corruption cases, in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
