Kirkland & Ellis is pleased to announce that David Cole, a nationally recognized tax controversy attorney, has joined the Firm as a partner in the Houston office.

“David is a talented tax attorney with substantial experience advising private equity sponsors, corporations and individuals on a range of domestic and international tax matters, and we are excited to welcome him to our strong and growing tax disputes practice,” said Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Cole represents clients in all phases of tax controversy from audits to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) appeals to litigation. In his litigation practice, he has represented clients before the U.S. Tax Court, Federal Courts of Appeal and in the Delaware Chancery Court. In addition to tax controversy, Mr. Cole advises clients on all aspects of investments relating to renewable energy and carbon capture projects. He uses his practical tax controversy experience when structuring these transactions to help achieve and sustain the intended treatment of the tax credits.

“Extra funding for the IRS and an uptick in audit activity are among the changes expected to increase tax disputes,” said Richard Husseini, a tax partner in Kirkland’s Houston office. “We are focused on adding talented and nimble attorneys like David to the team to help our clients navigate the shifting tax regulatory landscape.”
