Kirkland & Ellis Adds Broker and Exchange Partner Nick Losurdo

Kirkland & Ellis announced today that Nick Losurdo has joined the Firm as a partner in the Investment Funds Group.

“Nick is a talented lawyer with deep experience in broker-dealer, exchange, cryptocurrency and fintech matters, which pairs well with the growth we are seeing across our global funds platform,” said Erica Berthou, an investment funds partner and member of Kirkland’s Executive Committee. “We’re excited to welcome him to the team.”

Mr. Losurdo advises financial institutions, public companies and investors on regulatory, transactional and strategic matters. He focuses on broker-dealers, exchanges and other trading platforms, with deep knowledge of U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) rules.

Mr. Losurdo also counsels private equity and tech clients, particularly in fintech, blockchain and digital assets. He previously served at the SEC counsel to one of the commissioners.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Nick to the Firm,” said Nicole Runyan, an investment funds partner and head of Kirkland’s registered funds practice. “His deep experience in broker-dealer regulation and market structure as a private lawyer and as a regulator will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand and strengthen our investment funds practice.”

Mr. Losurdo has been recognized by Chambers USA for his work in U.S. broker-dealer regulation and compliance, and he previously led a team that The Legal 500 recognized in the space. He joins from Goodwin Procter, where he was a partner. He earned degrees from Suffolk University Law School and Stonehill College.

“Kirkland is a market leader in investment funds, offering a strong platform to grow and expand the broker-dealer practice, particularly as the industry moves closer toward an intersection of retail and institutional activity,” said Mr. Losurdo. “I’m ecstatic to join Kirkland and look forward to working with this outstanding group of lawyers and clients.”
