Kirkland Adds Leading State Attorneys General Litigator Prerak Shah to Growing Litigation Practice

Kirkland & Ellis announced today that Prerak “Pre” Shah, a leading state attorneys general litigator with extensive government experience, has joined the Firm as a partner.

“Pre’s extensive litigation experience and leadership in matters involving state attorneys general make him an exceptional complement to our premier litigation team,” said Jon A. Ballis, Chairman of Kirkland’s Executive Committee. “We’re excited to welcome him to Kirkland.”

Mr. Shah advises companies and executives facing investigations, enforcement actions and high-stakes litigation involving state attorneys general. He also represents clients in federal, congressional and internal investigations, as well as other complex civil disputes.

“Pre’s background is exceptionally well suited to the matters our clients face today, where state-level investigations and enforcement actions are frequently part of significant litigation,” said Andrew Kassof, a member of Kirkland’s Executive Committee. “Pre’s experience leading responses to state AG investigations for various large corporations and institutions will be a perfect addition to our team and platform.”

Mr. Shah has held senior roles across state and federal government, including serving as the Senior Counsel to the Attorney General of Texas, Chief of Staff and Chief Counsel to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, and Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. He has supervised landmark litigation and enforcement actions, overseen sensitive investigations and crafted legal strategy in cases with nationwide impact. Mr. Shah joins Kirkland from Gibson Dunn, where he founded and co-chaired the firm’s State Attorneys General Practice Group.

“Kirkland’s culture, litigation capabilities and commitment to growth make this an ideal platform on which to further build the Firm’s experience in matters involving state attorneys general,” said Mr. Shah. “I am excited to join this formidable team and help clients navigate increasingly complex state enforcement, litigation and regulatory challenges.”

Mr. Shah is the latest in a series of prominent additions to Kirkland’s growing litigation practice, including in Texas with the recent addition of Andrew LeGrand.
