Kirkland & Ellis Adds Infrastructure Finance Partners Rohit Chaudhry and Roald Nashi in Washington, D.C.

Kirkland & Ellis LLP is pleased to announce that Rohit Chaudhry and Roald Nashi have joined the Firm’s Washington, D.C., office as partners in the Debt Finance Practice Group. Mr. Chaudhry and Mr. Nashi collectively have more than 35 years of experience on energy and project finance transactions, representing private equity sponsors, institutional investors, developers and others, in domestic and international matters.

“Rohit is one of the leading infrastructure finance attorneys in the country,” said Jeffrey C. Hammes, Chairman of Kirkland’s Global Management Executive Committee. “His significant experience leading high-profile and complex financings for energy and infrastructure projects will bolster our strong debt finance and energy teams. Roald is also a highly accomplished finance attorney with a great pedigree from his prior firms. We are delighted to welcome Rohit and Roald to the Firm.”

Mr. Chaudhry joins from Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, where he was global head of projects and project finance. Prior to its merger with Norton Rose, Mr. Chaudhry led the project finance practice at Chadbourne & Parke LLP. He has worked with leading companies in the infrastructure space on acquisitions, dispositions and project restructurings across the energy spectrum, including the independent power, oil and gas, Midstream and LNG sectors, and has led transactions in the United States, Latin America and Asia.

Mr. Chaudhry has been recognized for many years as a leading project finance lawyer by publications including Chambers USA and Chambers Global — both of which recognized him as a Band 1 lawyer for project finance in the latest guides (2017). He has also been recognized as a top project finance lawyer by IFLR1000, The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers Latin America, Chambers Asia and Law360, which named him a project finance MVP in 2015. Mr. Chaudhry attended Harvard Law School and Delhi University.

Mr. Nashi joins from the Houston office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he worked with sponsor clients on financings in the oil and gas, power and infrastructure sectors. Prior to joining Simpson Thacher, Mr. Nashi practiced with White & Case LLP. Mr. Nashi attended Cornell University, where he earned both a law degree and a Ph.D., and the University of Wisconsin.

“Infrastructure finance is a natural extension of our energy and infrastructure platform,” said Andrew Calder, partner in Kirkland’s Houston office and a member of the Firm’s Global Management Executive Committee. “Many of our sponsor clients have infrastructure-focused investment strategies and need comprehensive private equity, energy and project finance advice. Rohit and Roald’s experience will expand our capabilities to meet those needs. They are great additions to our platform.”

Kirkland’s Debt Finance Practice Group includes more than 175 attorneys across the Firm’s 13 offices representing borrowers and lenders in a variety of complex transactions. The team utilizes Kirkland’s deep experience across disciplines such as private equity, capital markets, restructuring and other areas, to advise on complex financings for equity investors, buyout sponsors and borrowers, among others.

The 200 lawyers in Kirkland’s Energy Practice Group have a strong presence in Houston, New York and Washington, D.C., and handle an array of sophisticated energy transactions and advisory engagements.

Law360 recently recognized Kirkland as a 2017 Energy Practice Group of the Year, the second consecutive year that Kirkland was recognized in that category.
