7th Annual Kirkland Real Estate Private Equity Symposium

The 7th Annual Kirkland Real Estate Private Equity Symposium, hosted in Kirkland's New York office, will take place Wednesday, October 3 at 2 pm. Kirkland welcomes Roy H. March, Chief Executive Officer of Eastdil Secured, as the keynote speaker.

This year's event includes three panels on various facets of real estate private equity. The first panel, "Reworking New and Existing Investments," will discuss how applying a "restructuring" mindset continues to be helpful in approaching today's distressed real estate opportunities. The panel will also provide an update on recent rulings relating to real estate restructurings. Guest panelists include Laurence Geller, President, CEO and Director of Strategic Hotels & Resorts, Adam Metz, Senior Advisor at TPG Capital and William Rahm, Senior Managing Director at Centerbridge Partners.

The second panel, "New Perspectives on the Capital Stack," will center on current investment trends and new perspectives on the capital stack. Panelists will discuss various transactional approaches including the increase in multi-tiered joint ventures and mezzanine investing clothed as preferred equity investments. Jim Halliwell, Managing Director of Acquisitions and Dispositions at Principal Real Estate Investors, David Helfand, Co-President of Equity Group Investments and Barry Malkin, Senior Managing Partner of GEM Realty Capital will serve as guest panelists.

The third panel, "Current Trends in Fundraising," will focus on current trends and challenges in fundraising for private real estate funds. In addition to market perspectives, the panel will discuss ways in which investors are accessing real estate and the manager selection process among different types of investors. Guest panelists include Eric Mogentale, Managing Principal of Walton Street Capital, Chuck Purse, Managing Principal of Park Hill Real Estate and Scott White, Senior Vice President of Brookfield Private Funds Group.
