Prior to joining Kirkland, Nicholas was involved in the following representative matters:

• Represented a data center developer in the acquisition of approximately 4,800 acres of land in Texas for the development of a power plant and data centers.
• Represented banks and other lenders in a $4.5 billion pre-development mortgage loan and subsequent $22.75 billion construction loan for a data center development in Abilene, Texas.
• Represented banks and other lenders in a $2.5 billion pre-development mortgage loan and subsequent $15.25 billion construction loan for a data center development in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
• Represented a U.S. private equity fund in its purchase of a $30 million mezzanine loan made for the acquisition and renovation of The Ben, a full-service luxury hotel with 208 rooms located in West Palm Beach, Florida.
• Represented a U.S. private equity fund in its origination of a $110 million senior pre-development loan to finance the acquisition and pre-development costs of a family development site in Brooklyn, New York.
• Represented a U.S. private equity fund in its origination of a $42,604,230 mezzanine loan for pre-development costs of two neighboring retail and mixed-use properties in Los Angeles, California.
• Represented a U.S. private equity fund in its origination of a $64.93 million mezzanine loan to finance the construction of a 237,000-square-foot production studio and entertainment campus with four soundstages, offices and storage space in Los Angeles, California.
• Represented a Canadian real estate investment fund in connection with (i) the origination of a $30 million mezzanine loan that is indirectly secured by a portfolio of three Class-A life sciences properties located in Waltham, Massachusetts and (ii) its acquisition of the Risk Retention HRR Bond on a securitization of the $205 million mortgage loan.
• Represented a Canadian real estate investment fund in connection in connection with (i) the origination of a $75 million mezzanine loan that is indirectly secured by the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa located in Miami, Florida and (ii) its acquisition of the Risk Retention HRR Bond on a securitization of the $475 million mortgage loan.
• Represented U.S. real estate investment fund in connection with the restructuring of a $900 million syndicated loan secured by the Starrett-Lehigh building in New York City, which restructuring included conversion of roughly $57 million of equity into an intercompany loan from a joint venture entity.
• Represented U.S. private equity funds, as co-lenders, of senior and junior mezzanine loans in the aggregate amount of $91.5 million to finance the acquisition and construction of a 15 story, 530,000 square feet building in New York City with 614 residential rental units, 21,000 square feet of retail and 102 parking spaces.
• Represented U.S. private equity funds, as the senior lender and the mezzanine lender, in their origination of a mortgage loan and mezzanine loan in the aggregate amount of $213 million, to refinance an existing mortgage loan secured by Hamilton Crossing, a newly constructed family property in White Plains, New York.
• Represented U.S. private equity funds, as the senior lender and the mezzanine lender, in their origination of a senior mortgage construction loan and a junior mortgage construction loan in the aggregate amount of $413 million for construction of a two-tower development in Miami, Florida with condominium units, family rental units and retail space.
