Overview

Matthew Fagen is a restructuring partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His practice involves representing debtors and creditors in out-of-court restructurings and Chapter 11 cases. Matthew has a broad range of restructuring experience across multiple industries including retail, technology, and energy. Matthew has been recognized in the 2024 and 2025 editions of Chambers USA with sources noting “he is exceptionally bright and diligent” and that “he is super commercial and knows how to get a deal done.” The American Bankruptcy Institute selected Matthew for its 2023 list of “40 Under 40 - Emerging Leaders in Insolvency Practice.” In 2025, Matthew was named an “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer” by Turnarounds & Workouts. Matthew was also recognized by The Legal 500 United States for Restructuring: Corporate, 2023.
