Zach Lustbader is an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP with a practice focusing on appellate litigation. Zach has worked on appeals in a wide range of civil cases, including on issues of federal courts and civil procedure, the Commerce Clause, the First Amendment, the Seventh Amendment, arbitration and class-action defense. Zach also has experience litigating appeals in criminal matters, including successfully briefing the State of Oklahoma’s position in the U.S. Supreme Court as respondent in support of the retrial of then-death row inmate Richard Glossip, as well as representing Mark Meadows, former Chief of Staff to the President, in seeking removal of state charges to federal court.
Zach clerked for Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh on the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Michael H. Park on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Judge Dabney L. Friedrich on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He graduated summa cum laude in Statistics from Harvard University and earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was an Articles Editor for the Yale Law Journal and co-winner of the Morris Tyler Moot Court competition. Zach also has a background in financial markets; between college and law school, he worked as an equity derivatives trader on an automated market making desk.
