Overview

Matt Rice is a litigation partner in the Nashville office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Former Solicitor General of Tennessee, Matt has led litigation teams in high-profile matters across federal and state courts, including a landmark case at the U.S. Supreme Court implicating states’ constitutional authority. Described in Bloomberg Law coverage as “a spectacular, straight to-the-point, seasoned advocate” that is “one of the rising stars of his generation,” Matt leverages his prior experience in both private practice and government to advise clients facing complex litigation, regulatory disputes and attorney general investigations.

Matt clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas on the U.S. Supreme Court and Judge Sandra Ikuta on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He earned his law degree from Berkeley Law, where he graduated first in his class. Before his legal career, Matt played professional baseball in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
