Overview

Michael Thorpe is an antitrust partner in Kirkland's Chicago office. His practice focuses on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other transactions before the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC), with an emphasis on filings under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Antitrust Improvements Act. His practice also includes advising clients on the antitrust implications of contractual terms, integration planning issues, gun-jumping, and other aspects of the merger review process.

He has guided clients through a number of initial investigations and second requests before the DOJ and FTC, and has advised private equity firms, public companies, and other clients on pre-merger clearance issues in hundreds of transactions across a wide range of industries, including software and other information technology, telecommunications, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, retail, and food and beverage.
