Overview

Jiaxiao Zhang is an intellectual property partner in the Los Angeles office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Her practice primarily focuses on intellectual property litigation matters. Jiaxiao is an experienced patent attorney and former engineer.

Jiaxiao was in-house as a patent agent at Canon, U.S.A., Inc., a patent agent and technical advisor in boutique IP law firms, and a USPTO patent examiner. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering through studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Jiaxiao was a supplier quality engineer/component engineer at Guidant Corporation, Cardiac Rhythm Management (later acquired by Boston Scientific and Abbott Laboratories), and also has experience in design engineering, biotechnology laboratories, research and retail.

Jiaxiao maintains an active pro bono practice and leadership roles in various Firm and local/bar organizations.

Experience

Prior to joining Kirkland, Jiaxiao was involved in matters including:

Represented electronics industry companies in IPR proceedings regarding electronic device connectors and resolving related litigation.
Represented international mobile device company in resolving a multi-patent W.D. Tex. case based on power control technologies.
Represented international consumer electronics company in resolving district court, potential IPRs and ex parte review cases regarding power controls patents.
Represented liquid crystal display company in resolving district court and potential IPR cases regarding display technology patents.
Secured post-trial verdict for verification technology company in D. Del. false advertising, Lanham Act suit regarding authentication services.
Represented clients in resolving filed and not yet filed copyright infringement matters in C.D. Cal.
Represented Surfrider Foundation in a Clean Water Act citizen lawsuit against the International Boundary and Water Commission–United States Section to address water quality violations and seek clean water in the Tijuana River Valley.
Secured post-trial verdict of no invalidity for written description, and induced infringement of biotechnology company's patent claims relating to a method of administering treprostinil via inhalation, supporting injunction against approval of competing product.
