Lawyers in Kirkland’s Boston office hope to change this reality through their work with BizGrow Central, a new entrepreneurship hub established by Lawyers for Civil Rights (LCR) designed to connect small business owners in Boston-area communities with free legal support, technical guidance, networking opportunities and a professional workspace.

Since 2022, Kirkland has supported LCR’s greater BizGrow program, participating in legal clinics where entrepreneurs meet one-on-one with Kirkland attorneys to discuss their goals and legal needs. Through these clinics, attorneys at every level of the Firm — from summer associates to partners — provide legal guidance on issues critical to starting, operating and growing a business. In some instances, those conversations evolve into longer-term pro bono representations, allowing Kirkland lawyers to offer deeper support as businesses continue to develop.

“BizGrow exemplifies the type of pro bono work that resonates deeply with our attorneys because it combines meaningful community impact with the core skills we use every day as transactional lawyers,” said partner Shayla Harlev, who leads pro bono efforts in Boston. “By helping entrepreneurs and small business owners address foundational legal and business issues, we are supporting economic opportunity across Boston while providing our lawyers with a unique opportunity to engage directly with members of the local community.”

With the launch of BizGrow Central, the partnership between LCR and Kirkland now has a permanent space for this important work. Following a ribbon-cutting celebration on October 19, 2026, Kirkland attorneys led a workshop at the new facility focused on entity selection, which helped entrepreneurs better understand how to choose the legal structure that most closely aligns with their business objectives. The workshop marked the first of many educational programs Kirkland will lead through the partnership.

The Kirkland-BizGrow relationship is part of a broader culture of pro bono service in the Boston office, with lawyers across practice groups contributing hundreds of hours every year to matters that strengthen local communities.

“Attorneys in our Boston office are committed to using their skills to make an impact in the communities where we live and work,” said partner Armand Della Monica, who leads the Firm’s Boston office. “That commitment is reflected in our 100% participation in pro bono work and the enthusiasm our lawyers bring to programs like BizGrow, which provide meaningful opportunities to give back while creating connections among lawyers at every level of the Firm.”

Over the past year, Kirkland has provided pro bono legal support to more than 135 small business clients across the country — from coffee shop owners to graphic designers — helping entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses while enriching our communities.
