Chambers & Partners has compiled their independent and objective list of America's Leading Business Lawyers based on comments gathered from thousands of interviews with clients and lawyers from Maine to Hawaii. This guide -- which is designed to reflect market opinion -- contains a view of the firms and attorneys who are considered leaders in their field.
In Chambers' 2003-2004 review of national legal talent in the area of "Insolvency/Corporate Recovery," our Firm and our lawyers are listed among the best in the country.
The Firm: Clearly one of the two market leaders, the "marvelous practice" continues to rate highly for the breadth of its work. The insolvency group advises a range of national and international clients, appearing for debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, financial institutions, lessors and investors. It has been involved in a string of high-profile bankruptcies in recent years, and has acknowledged expertise in complex corporate restructuring, workout and bankruptcy planning and insolvency litigation. The firm has represented Teligent in its restructuring efforts, and Exide Technologies in its Chapter 11 restructuring.
The Lawyers: Much of the team's continuing eminence is attributed to Jamie Sprayregen. Peers recognize him as "an enormously hard worker, who deserves every bit of success he gets." His practice is split between Chicago and New York, and East Coast opponents applaud his "excellence at negotiating and managing the process." He has recently represented Conseco and WR Grace on their restructuring activities, while his creditors' work includes the committee of unsecured creditors in the Chapter 11 proceedings of Williams Communications.
The Clients: Clients include: American Commercial Lines; Chiquita Brands International; Dade Behring; Quality Stores; TWA; United Airlines and United Artists Theatre Company.
