Kirkland & Ellis is well known throughout Washington, DC for its "terrific litigation skills" and excellent transactional practice. In the litigation field, Stuart Drake is recognized by market observers as "a leader in crafting winning arguments" and is renowned for his representation of automotive companies — including GM and Toyota — in enforcement actions, regulatory litigation and agency rulemaking processes. He is particularly adept at handling cases involving air pollution regulation, and also advises trade associations that represent automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Walt Lohmann leads the transactional environmental group. He concentrates on the environmental compliance and liability issues affecting corporate and real estate transactions, and has recently witnessed an increase in restructuring and bankruptcy-related work.
