Kirkland Awarded a “Top Defense Verdict” by The Daily Journal
The Daily Journal recognized Kirkland, as well as partners Allison Brown and Mark Premo-Hopkins for the recent defense verdict win for Uber in a first-of-its-kind bellwether trial in multidistrict litigation.
The win is significant, as it was the first U.S. jury to reach a verdict on the question of whether a company should be held legally responsible for failing to prevent their drivers from assaulting or harassing passengers. The case has involved two coordinated proceedings in California and federal courts, with the present trial having been conducted in a plaintiff-friendly jurisdiction. With the odds seemingly stacked against them, the team was nevertheless able to secure this important victory.
Alli is a nationally recognized trial lawyer who leads clients in high-stakes jury trials and has a proven track record of success in some of the most challenging jurisdictions around the country.
Mark serves as lead trial counsel in a broad range of complex disputes — handling matters as diverse as plaintiff-side commercial claims and defense of massive product liability cases — for some of the world’s largest technology, pharmaceutical and chemical companies.
