Another Chock-Full Bunch of Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout Outs

Kirkland partners Devin Anderson, Emily Long and Tammy Tsoumas received a shout out in The AmLaw Litigation Daily’s "Litigator of the Week" column for securing a defense win in favor of an education technology company.

"... Sticking with the California privacy law theme for a moment, shout out to a team at Kirkland & Ellis that knocked out data breach-related claims against education technology client Illuminate Education Inc. Ventura County Superior Judge Benjamin Coats last week found that Illuminate wasn’t a covered entity under the state’s Confidentiality of Medical Information Act, which carries a hefty $1,000-per-plaintiff damages provision. Coats also found the company didn’t have a duty to report the incident to the plaintiff under the state’s Customer Records Act, beyond its duty to report it to the plaintiff’s school district. The Kirkland team included Devin Anderson, Emily Long and Tammy Tsoumas."
