Lawyer Gets His Ear Pierced in Court by Claire’s Employee. Judge Jokes, ‘We’re Going to Find Out if You’re a Crier’
In an unexpected turn of events covered by People Magazine, Josh Sussberg made good on a bold promise – to get his ear pierced by a Claire’s employee in the courtroom if Kirkland successfully secured a buyer for the retail chain. He made the vow earlier this summer during a bankruptcy hearing and true to his word, after a deal to sell Claire’s to a private equity firm was approved, he followed through as an example of just how far Kirkland lawyers are willing to go for their clients.
"It felt great to follow through on my pledge because it meant that Claire’s was going to survive," Sussberg says. "Close to 1,000 stores would remain open, thousands of people like Ms. Rivera would keep their jobs, and the next generation would have the opportunity to experience Claire’s like so many generations before."
