Overview

Alex Barata is an associate in the Technology and IP Transactions Practice Group in the Bay Area office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Alex's practice focuses on advising clients on technology, intellectual property, and data privacy and security-related aspects of corporate transactions. Alex has a particular interest in software matters, life-science matters, and Environmental, Social, and Governance considerations applicable to technology and data-focused companies. Alex regularly advises clients on data privacy compliance matters (including with respect to the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act).

In addition to his core practice, Alex has a strong focus on pro bono work and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the AIDS Legal Referral Panel, a nonprofit that provides free and low-cost legal services to people living with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area.
