Prior to joining Kirkland, some of Cohl’s notable representations included:

• A portfolio of real estate companies in a matter involving a group of employees who attempted a hostile takeover and, after failing in that attempt, misappropriated confidential material and business opportunities to start a competing venture. After arbitration, a decision in favor of the company including substantial attorney’s fees was issued
• An organization in numerous individual and consolidated actions originating from thousands of plaintiffs for harm to person and property resulting from the Maui wildfires. Prior to the first scheduled trial, the court approved a historical settlement for which the client paid only a minor fraction
• An insurance broker in a large-scale fraud action involving coverage procured for a cryptocurrency exchange company. Following discovery and mediation, the matter was settled for less than 8% of the demand
• A publicly traded company in a securities class action based on alleged cost overruns and delays. A favorable settlement was reached before the putative class was certified
• An online platform connecting consumers to service providers in a putative class action involving allegedly fraudulent claims. Following discovery misconduct, the court awarded a preclusion of certain evidence, legal fees, and special master fees against plaintiffs. Subsequently, the client received a full dismissal of claims on summary judgment
• An indigent criminal defendant in charges regarding his alleged participation in a black market peso scheme. In just two weeks of representation, the client achieved a sentence of time served, was released, and transported back to Colombia to reunite with his family.
