Overview

Ashley Phillips is a litigation associate in Kirkland’s New York office. Ashley represents clients in complex commercial litigation, with a practice focused on high-stakes business disputes, expedited proceedings and sophisticated discovery. Before joining Kirkland, Ashley served as a law clerk to both the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, experiences that continue to shape a practical and strategic approach to litigation.

Ashley’s practice spans every stage of litigation, from pre-suit strategy through discovery, dispositive motions, trial and appeal. Ashley has represented clients in matters involving securities, restructuring, corporate governance, intellectual property and licensing, and complex commercial contract disputes, including cases involving private equity sponsors, lenders and multinational businesses.

Ashley has substantial hands-on litigation experience and has taken and defended depositions, prepared witnesses for testimony, managed complex discovery and drafted critical motions and appellate briefs. Ashley’s practice combines day-to-day responsibility on high-stakes commercial disputes with meaningful courtroom advocacy, providing experience across every phase of litigation.

In addition to work on complex commercial matters, Ashley has had the unique opportunity to serve as first-chair trial counsel in numerous individual civil matters and contested hearings. That experience provided frequent courtroom appearances, direct and cross-examination of witnesses, evidentiary arguments and trial advocacy early in practice, complementing Ashley’s work on large-scale commercial litigation.
