Paula Zampietro

Since joining Kirkland, Paula has been involved in the following representative matters:

• An American clothing retailer and its former CEO in a putative class action in Florida arising out of the $1 billion take-private acquisition of the company. In 2025, Paula was part of the team that secured the dismissal of all claims. Pending appeal.
• A biopharmaceutical company and its former CEO in a putative class action in the Delaware Court of Chancery arising out of the $890 million take-private acquisition of the company.
• A major Chinese pharmaceutical company in multidistrict litigation (MDL) where the plaintiffs allege economic loss and personal injuries from the use of certain high blood pressure medicines (valsartan), which the plaintiffs claim contained trace levels of NDMA, a known liver toxin and carcinogen. Paula was part of the team that obtained a critical victory, convincing the MDL court to exclude the opinions of the plaintiff’s only specific cause expert for the first scheduled bell-whether trial, resulting in a summary judgment victory.
• A multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company in multidistrict litigation where the plaintiffs alleged economic loss and personal injuries from the use of heartburn medication, which the plaintiffs claimed contained trace levels of NDMA. Paula was part of the team that obtained a favorable, early settlement, resolving all claims.
• An American technology company in JCCP and multidistrict litigation in California where the plaintiffs allege the company and other social media companies caused or contributed to their mental health and other personal injuries.

Prior to joining Kirkland, Paula was involved in the following representative matters:

• Represented global shipping company in multi-party class action concerning an oil spill in California in the Central District of California.
• Represented public utility in mass tort action concerning a wildfire in Colorado in Colorado state court.

Represented a nonprofit organization in submitting amicus brief in support of a criminal appeal in the Michigan Supreme Court.

Represented an individual in a criminal appeal in the New York Supreme Court.
