Chambers' comments:

District of Columbia Ranking:  4

The Firm: The "private equity stalwart" in the DC market, this firm has witnessed a strengthening of the market recently, with activity picking up through all deal stages. In its capacity as primary counsel to New Enterprise Associates (NEA), it is proving itself to be a robust venture capital counselor, although it has also been targeting fund formation, M&A, IPOs and portfolio transactions. Recent noteworthy transactions include the representation of Constellation Energy in its acquisition of the New Energy business from AES. The practice has also been active in the public company arena and boasts expertise across the sports, healthcare and technology industries.

The Lawyers: George Stamas is widely credited as the active, "visible" force in the team, developing the practice and forging close client relationships. He is a "real character" who "radiates knowledge and energy."

The Clients: MidOcean Partners; Constellation Energy Group; NEA; Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group and Legg Mason Wood Walker.
