In April 2009, The American Lawyer measured the success of the transactional practices in the nation's leading law firms in the annual survey, "Corporate Scorecard." Kirkland's involvement as counsel on significant deals in 2008 includes the following:

• Ranked 1st by number of deals in the "Private Equity" category
• Ranked 5th by value of deals in the "Private Equity" category
• Ranked 8th by number of deals in the "Mergers and Acquisitions" category in the role of counsel to principal
• Named in the largest bankruptcy emergence of 2008 — Calpine Corporation with $27.2 billion in assets
