Litigator of the Week Runners-Up and Shout-Outs

Mark Holscher, Austin Norris, Maisie Allison, Steven Czak and Jake Feiler received a shout-out for The American Lawyer's "Litigator of the Week" for their work for client Cedar Rapids Development Group.

Shout-out to a team at Kirkland & Ellis that helped turn back a legal challenge to the approval of a proposed $275 million casino project that their client, Cedar Rapids Development Group, has in the works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The license holders for the Riverside Casino and Golf Resort, located in a rural area about 40 miles away, challenged the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision to grant a license to the Cedar Rapids project. But in a 76-page decision issued last week, Iowa Eighth Judicial District Judge Michael Schilling found that the new project’s opponents failed to demonstrate “the required prejudice and the invalidity” in the commission’s decision.
