Chambers Comments:

USA
Ranking: 3

The Firm: This litigation giant has an antitrust pedigree to be proud of; its "very effective" senior partners and batch of younger attorneys combine to form a broad band of specialists.  Adopting a "strong litigation mentality" and with "tremendous trial experience," the firm is able to draw on antitrust expertise throughout its network of offices in the USA and beyond, particularly in Chicago and Washington, D.C.  The group has recognized strength in high-stakes international price-fixing litigation and, in keeping with prevailing trends, attorneys are increasingly undertaking criminal defense work.  On the advisory and transactional side, the firm's private equity caseload generates business in a steady flow of merger-related work, where lawyers bring their "strong team concept to bear."  The firm represented Concord in its $7.1 billion acquisition by First Data before the DOJ.  The "highly organized and aggressive approach" proved successful in battling cases such as 3M's defense of a nationwide dealer class action on behalf of 300 terminated dealers.  The group also defended 3M in a disguised Walker Process claim relating to the company's asthma inhaler patent family.

Clients/Work Highlights: Infineon Technologies; AlliedSignal; Alpharma; AOL; Netscape; Aon; Barr Laboratories; Health Care Service; BP; GM; Kraft; 3M; Polaris Industries; BP America; Dow Chemical; SC Johnson & Son; Brown & Williamson; Bayer; Chiquita Brands International and Coors Brewing.
