Chambers' comments:

New York Ranking: 3

The Firm: A Chicago giant that has made not just a substantial impact on the New York market but has also created an international footprint in the private equity market. The firm has adopted a slow and steady approach to geographical expansion; an approach which appears to be reaping dividends. The firm's seven offices include bases in the key markets of London and Munich. This cross-border capability has enabled the firm to act on the representation of UK buyout house CVC Equity Partners on its formation of CVC Capital partners IV, a fund worth $7.3 billion, the largest buyout fund outside the US to date. It also advised this client on the formation of CVC Capital Partners Asia Pacifc II LP.

The Lawyers: An impressive and dynamic attorney, Kirk Radke is the driving force of the New York private equity team. He acted for former members of DLJ Merchant Banking Partners on the formation of Avista Capital Partners.

Clients/Work Highlights: Other clients include AIG Private Equity; Merrill Lynch Private Equity; Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe and Warburg Pincus.
